Weekly Figure Drawing

At Circe Society, we are lucky to host Madison's Tuesday night drawing club. The drawing club has had a dedicated following for decades and we're its latest home.

Please note that this is not a class and there will not be instruction. It's guided open drawing available to any artist of any skill level.
​
How it works:
Figure drawing takes place on Tuesday nights, generally from 7 - 10.
The model(s) perform a series of poses, progressively growing in length. We start with quick sketches around 30 seconds and work our way up to 30-minute or hour-long poses near the end.

Models vary from week to week. An individual from Circe Society hosts the class and schedules models.
​
There is no fee for figure drawing. However, we do suggest a $10 donation for the model's time.
​
Bring your own materials! A sketch book, markers, iPad, watercolors, and more are all acceptable. The point is to get out and draw.
Nudity & Respectfulness
Models may or may not pose nude, depending on the model's comfort. If you are uncomfortable with nudity, we strongly recommend that you seek other opportunities for drawing.

As a group, we do enjoy casual conversation, but we try to keep talking to a minimum, especially when the model is posing. We want to remain respectful of one another's time and the model's comfort.
​
If the host, model, or other artists are made uncomfortable by an individual's presence, Circe Society reserves the right to remove that individual if necessary. The comfort and safety of our models is our top priority.

Seating
Circe Society provides seating, but we recommend you bring your own chair if you're unable or unwilling to sit on folding chairs or drawing horses for an extended period of time. Easels are welcome!

Photos
We request that you DO NOT take photos of the models, other artists, or their work without permission.
​
You may be asked by the host for permission to photograph your work to share on Circe Society's social media pages.
Interested in Modeling?
Models can reach out to Sara via email to inquire. Two individuals work together to host figure drawing and schedule models, so you may work with Sara or the alternate host depending on scheduling needs.
​
Modeling is not paid, but you do receive the full balance of tips at the end of the night. Payout will depend on attendance.
​
We attempt to schedule new models at least 2 weeks in advance.
​
Models may work solo, in pairs, or as a trio. Pairs can be particularly fun, especially if you're nervous as a new model. Bring a friend!
​
You do not have to pose nude. However, many models feel empowered by the experience. It's not very often in life you have the chance to be a "muse," nor is it common to have your naked body viewed completely non-sexually.
Drawing Schedule
Figure drawing takes place every Tuesday, but is cancelled on these dates.
We may cancel at any time due to weather, model cancellation, or other extenuating circumstances. But, generally, we don't.
NO Figure Drawing on These Dates:
April 15: Tax Day​
May 27: Day after Memorial Day
September 2: Day after Labor Day
November 4: Election Day (local/regional)
November 25: Thanksgiving Week
December 16, 23, 30: Holiday Break
